This pastel should make all of you who love your Tonkas and Caterpillar trucks very happy! We are going to paint a pastel – a big dump truck chalk art– and it is easy!

You will only need three chalk pastel colors: orange, black and grey.
We made our painting on green construction paper, turned horizontally.
Pick up your black and draw two circles for your truck tires – round with orange centers. To show that there are two tires on the front and back, put 1/2 a tire in front of each round one. There, you believe that there are two tires!
Still using your black pastel, let’s draw the truck. Look at the pictures and you will see that the front of the truck starts out with straight lines for a block look that continues upward to the cab. The windshield is slanted and the cab of the truck is a simple square.
The bed of the truck is straight lines to the end and connects to the straight lines underneath all the way around the truck and meeting again in the front. The uplifted dumper is just a simple line shape sort of like a long “z” and two lifters are connected to the bottom of the lifter back to the truck.
Now take your orange pastel and turn it on its side. Slowly fill in the body of the truck until you have it all covered. You have to put something in the dumper. I put some grey gravel in mine but you might like some rocks or boxes or a pile of dirt!
The front of the truck is black and you can put some black bars for safety on too.
What a great truck you have painted! You have done a wonderful job with your colors! Be sure to sign your name in the corner, flip the painting over and name and date it. Great job – and always remember – you ARE an artist!
