This homeschool year we have had the best time learning with Exploring Creation with Astronomy by Apologia. Today we are sharing our favorite homeschool astronomy resources we’ve used right alongside Apologia. We highly recommend Apologia’s Astronomy textbook, the notebooking journals and the MP3 audio book. In fact, I have a full review of Exploring Creation with Astronomy at The Curriculum Choice. Don’t miss it!

Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy – full review, breakdown of the difference in the two editions. This textbook and the notebooking journal have been the spine of our elementary studies.

Besides the core of studies – our Apologia Astronomy resources – we have a few other things we’ve enjoyed. Many of these I shared on Instagram this homeschool year, including:

Created Cosmos DVD

Created Cosmos

“By learning about the intricacies of the celestial realm, we gain an infinitesimal glimpse into the infinite mind of God.” -Created Cosmos DVD of the planetarium show at @creationmuseum (watching today to complement our @apologiaworld Astronomy studies) This is a DVD that our eldest son got as as a souvenir on his 12-year-old trip to The Creation Museum almost five years ago! #OurGodisAnAwesomeGod #HodgepodgeHomeschool ☄🔭⭐️

Find the Created Cosmos DVD at the Creation Museum store online. Also available in digital download.

Handbook of Nature Study

Barb McCoy of the Handbook of Nature Study has many Outdoor Hour Challenges we love and have enjoyed in the past. Take a look at all of her Outdoor Hour Night Sky challenges for inspiration and simple ideas for getting started with observations – notebooking pages included!

Planetarium Field Trip

Local Planetarium

When you are studying Apologia astronomy you need to have a field trip to the local planetarium – Tellus Musem ☄⭐️🔭

Solar Walk 2

Solar Walk 2

Following up our @apologiaworld Astronomy lesson with a tour of the solar system via Solar Walk 2 ⭐️🔭☄ on the Apple TV. You can find Solar Walk 2 in the app store.

Stellarium Mobile Sky App

With this Stellarium Mobile Sky app you can point your mobile device or iPad towards the night sky and the app will show a map of the current night sky. We have had SO much fun with this resource – just standing in the driveway to find Beetlejuice, Jupiter, Mars, the Milky Way and more.

Library Astronomy Books

We have had so much fun learning about astronomy this year that we are continuing our studies through the summer, just for fun.

Space Art Samples

Space Art

We love space studies so much that it has, of course, branched out into our art. We have three choices in video art courses – Solar System (with a solar eclipse!), Space Exploration and a bundled option of both. We also have our eCurriculum version, Chalk Pastels: Art in Space. All of that learning has been solidified when we are creating the night sky and placing the Big Dipper or swirling a spiral galaxy.

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

We are finishing up our year with Astronomy with Experience Astronomy taught by Luke Gilkerson. It has been amazing. If you enjoyed astronomy this year – he will absolutely amaze you! Awesome program.

We did Exploring Creation years ago and we all loved Experience Astronomy even more.
