“Now, honey, you know you can’t wear white shoes after Labor Day. It’s the unwritten fashion rule.”
So, this past Labor Day weekend, we wore our white shoes to church and eldest wore her white skirt. And for some reason it’s a slower seasonal transition for me than our Spring Forward Seasonal Assessment.
In my mind, I stand with one foot in summer and one in fall. Yes, we’ll still be wearing flip flops and hanging on to summer a bit longer. Sure, it’s still warm.
But it’s these early days of fall weather I adore. Warm enough for short sleeves but cool enough evenings for flinging wide the windows. Listening for the slowing down of crickets.
The sun rises later, has that certain late afternoon slant, then sets earlier.
I’m both sad to see summer fade and am anticipating new fall habits.
Delights like…
- Fires to snuggle by
- Fill you up sorta soups
- Football
- Hot chocolate
- Kicking leaves up on family walks
- Curling up with a good book
- Children arguing over the best throw blanket in the mornings
- Settling in under an extra quilt
- The return of regular fall activities. New Bible studies, children’s activities
Plus, my countdown widget says it’s only 109 days until Christmas. Guess we really do need to tuck the white shoes away…
How ’bout you? What will you miss most about summer or what can you absolutely not wait for this fall?

I do not think I will miss anything about summer. I know that sounds harsh but I really didn’t enjoy this “Hot” season this year. I have always loved the fall season but this year I am anticipating it even more!!! Some of the things I am looking forward to…….more creation walks, enjoying a cup of coffee while sitting outside, spending more time outside, camping in the wonderful fall season, the leaves changing colors, watching the boys jump in piles of leaves, This is a lovely post Trisha. Thanks!

I will enjoy the cooler, drier weather! Roasting marshmallows by our fire pit outside…doing yardwork and not coming in all sweaty…the bright, orange, yellow, and red decorations on front porches and the occasional scarecrow smiling at me from someone’s front yard as I drive past. Apples! In season and the most delicious tasting at this time of year. Maybe even a hayride?!?

I am with Angie…this hot weather is not for me! I love Fall! I like the weather, college football, going to the park, going to the pumpkin patch, Timothy and Tracy both have fall birthdays and this year we will be traveling to visit my gramcracker in the fall!

Just found your blog through the magic of twitter. Lovely! 🙂 I’m looking forward to cooler days and nights as this NC humidity is getting OLD! But I am going to miss days by the pool and gathering shells at the beach….but never fear, time marches on and it will come back around again!
