A Capitol Field Trip

Nana invited us down to visit her at work. She works under that golden dome, at the Georgia State Capitol. It was a perfect time to go because the capitol was all decorated for Christmas. Also, it wasn’t crowded at all and Nana gave us our own personal tour. It was a capitol field trip.

We were most impressed with the giant Christmas tree. The photo above is the view of the tree from the third floor!

And, see? it reaches way up to the top of the rotunda.

We toured the displays on each floor. Oh the symbols of our native Georgia. Oh how impressed six-year-old was with the gigantic shark’s tooth!

This cut away of the dome gave us a good idea of the layers and design.

We made sure we saw the two-headed calf!

The legislative chambers impressed Eldest Girl the most. She wants to come back and be a page. (Nana said the carpet, above, is re-woven to match original floor coverings).

Eldest Girl lost a tooth on these very steps. (Back when she was just six and we were on another tour with Nana).

And, here, at the bottom of the steps, is where the representatives used to tie up their horses (Nana told us).

Despite getting lost in downtown Atlanta. Despite the pouring rain. We think we’ll make Christmas at the capitol an annual tradition.

Thank you Nana for the wonderful tour! We enjoyed meeting your office mates, getting to see our state capitol and having our picture made under that giant tree.

And seeing the capitol all decorated for Christmas.
