Okay, this is a pretty basic topic, but I don’t think we can start talking about habits for a happy home without a good foundation.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25
Without spending time in God’s word every day, there just isn’t much hope for the kind of home we are looking for. If you aren’t sure how to start, here are a few tools that have helped me:
Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plans – This site offers 3 different options for Bible study. They have a handy print out that goes along with each plan so that you can check of what you have read. I’m currently using the “Book at a Time” plan and I love it. It mixes up the Old and New Testaments so you don’t get bogged down reading one thing for too long. This site also has a plan for anyone who doesn’t think they have enough time to study the Bible – it takes just 5 minutes a day!
Zondervan has several great options for Bible reading plans from beginner to advanced in time frames ranging from 30 days of study to 3 years.
If you’re looking for some specific guidance on what a Biblical home should look like, Revive Our Hearts has a great study on Proverbs 31. Kim pointed me to this site probably over a year ago and I absolutely love it. It is a website based on a radio program and they have all of their show archives online – you can listen to them or just read the text. The link I’ve given here will direct you to the first day of the Proverbs 31 study. Each day you visit you can just click “next” up at the top of the article and it will take you to the next day’s program. They also offer several 30-day challenges that can be delivered to your inbox each day for a month. This is an incredible resource for anyone who thinks the Biblical standard for a woman is unattainable.
