If you’re a mom, when you read the title of this post, you probably thought that I was going to talk about kids and how their messes are really masterpieces (and they are – most of the time 🙂 )
But I’m not.
I want to ask you ~
Are you feeling like a mess or a masterpiece?
This school year, I’ve had the privilege of hosting an art club for elementary-age children in our co-op. For the end of the year, I wanted to give them a little art-themed gift with a note from me. My inspiration was Ephesians 2:10 ~
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
While I was preparing the canvases with the note on the back, God clearly reminded me that it applies to me, too. I am His masterpiece. I’ll admit that lately I’ve felt more like a mess. With the hustle and bustle of spring time activities, I have felt more like a piece of work than a work of art.
That’s when a change of perspective is in order. When we’re feeling put out, pressured, pooped on, and just plain pooped, it’s time to let the Father remind us what we are to Him.
He sees straight past that rumpled outfit that’s a couple of seasons out of style, the roots in need of a touch up, the frayed fingernails, and yes, those few extra pounds – straight to the masterpiece He is creating inside. He already knows what the finished product will look like…and it’s certainly not a mess! Much like the mural above, he fits together the seemingly random pieces of our lives to achieve a perfect picture, one modeled after His son.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
After all, He is the Master creator.
And you are His masterpiece…so start acting like one!

You’ve been reading my mind again, haven’t you? Gosh… I don’t have to wait until I feel like masterpiece. He says I already am! Thanks for the encouragement.
