Spring Break Week Sped By

Last weekend, our first couple of days of spring break, we fixed up the playhouse! We cleaned, swept and knocked down last summer’s wasp nests.

Hodgepodgedad installed shelves. Now it’s a backyard nature spot, a place to tuck the shovels and big construction machines out of the rain.

We watched Tangled twice.

Sunday night, with the two big kids, we also watched the first part of series on the Civil War by Ken Burns (we studied this part of history with Tapestry of Grace just last year).

Monday Duty Day – appointments at the doctor, orthodontist and drama practice. I accomplished quite a bit on my to do list.

Tuesday Play Day – (yes, that’s blue play sand above) I pulled my hair up and put my lace up shoes on. That means business. I took a look at that spring break wish list and I rearranged. I didn’t want this to turn into all work and no play.

So, we ended up fixing teacher gifts and enjoying some cooking fun – Graham-wiches. {Insert here stomping in the fresh puddles in the backyard from the previous night’s big storms}. Alice in Wonderland movie (1999 version) for character study for the upcoming Drama Troupe play. For supper buttermilk chicken. That night, we watched another part of the Civil War special with the oldest three children.

Wednesday Nature and Art Day – Luci had a friend over. After lunch we went and ran around the park across the street.

(The Spring Time Hunt for Queen Anne’s Lace). With an accompanying Pastel Tutorial.

All joined in on painting some decorations on the inside of the playhouse. A new, made up recipe was tried.

Thursday Around Town Day – Couple more doctor check ups. (Had I known there would be five immunization shots between two girls, I wouldn’t have scheduled them during spring break!). But, one got to try the new Chick-fil-a banana pudding milkshake while the other got an Oreo shake. Shots do call for milkshakes, you know.

But the day also started with an ATTACH meeting between sisters. ATTACH stands for Advancing Together Toward Accountability, Christ-likeness and Harmony and is explained here. I shared how this habit started in our family in the post, Brothers and Sisters Best Friends? (Oh sakes, but it’s not all peaches and cream around here all the time  🙂 )

Friday fun. fun. fun. at Mama Ann’s house! My grandmother is just about 20 minutes away. We try to go and play at her house several times a month.

We took our annual photo in front of her gorgeous azaleas.

Took a look at a snail on her front porch. Blew bubbles, played trains, a matching game and cards. Colored, had a picnic, went over to the garden and walked the path near the creek.

So many fun times with Mama Ann!

Each evening this week we spent time right at bedtime reading Amon’s Adventure. Boy is it exciting!

One last thing…if Hodgepodge is to your liking, hop on over and like us on Facebook. You can click over in the right hand side bar too.

It was a simple, stay-at-home type of Spring Break. We got a few things done and had some fun. Wonder how getting back into the routine will go next week?

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Our spring break sounds much like yours, Tricia! Simple and stay-at-home (except for a few meet-ups with friends) is best for refreshing minds, bodies, and spirits. I love, love, love the annual azalea photo! And thanks for the tip about shots calling for milkshakes. The menace of immunizations due later this month looms before us…

Just now getting to stop by and catch up. What a full week you had for your break! We are officially on our break week this week and it has been busy too but not so many fun things as your family was able to squeeze in. You did a great job making the week special. 🙂
