Guess what? Grandma and Grandpa are here! And since we haven’t seen them in a little under two years we are making the most of it! Toss the books aside? No, no. We’ll just alter the schedule a bit. Make sure we get our math in. The older ones are still reading elections selections. We’ll keep up with current events. High schooler is gearing up for NaNoWriMo. But mostly we will…
Go on plenty of field trips. Like the local pumpkin patch. We’re gonna take in some fall leaf views too.
1. Grandma and Grandpa | 2. about 3 hours of Monopoly | 3. The three Rs before lunch | 4. Hodgepodgedad is taking time off and boy are we glad!
Because Grandma and Grandpa are some of our best audience when it comes to homeschooling. Many a unit celebration they have been subjected to at Thanksgiving. So there is talk and some work on projects for that.
And we are having Thanksgiving early with them. On Election Day! A perfect time to celebrate all we’ve been learning in our Tapestry of Grace and Elections studies. (Middle Girl is working on a George Washington display board above).
But mostly, mainly, with this altered homeschool schedule you will find us just enjoying! We’ve been clipping along since the last week of July without an official break really.

And, as you fellow homeschoolers know, if you give homeschoolers a break, they are going to find a way to learn some things anyway. Often, a week off from a regular schedule helps us discover a new way of learning or a new subject to concentrate on.
We know how blessed we are with grandparents that are interested and involved in our homeschool. And we are going to take full advantage over the next week and a half – and enjoy!

Oh, what a happy, happy week! Yes, we often find that we must take a few days off of our regular schooling to do it in a different way, like field trips, and unit celebrations. Can’t wait to try out Nana’s tutorial!
Tricia — I think this is just wonderful. I’ve been seeing the Instagram pictures and thinking what a great time you are having. Grandparents are a HUGE blessing. Your post makes me miss my mom and dad, but we will be seeing them in January, so pretty soon. 🙂

The flexibility is so wonderful, isn’t it! It helps during good times (like visits with grandparents) and bad (like sickness or our mini basement flood this week). Looks like a great week and fabulous memories.
