You ARE an Artist: Chalk Pastel Art 101

You ARE an Artist is our motto here at Hodgepodge and chalkpastel.com

Why? Because you are. You just may not know it yet.

“But I didn’t inherit the art gene,” you might say. “I don’t have a stitch of creativity in me,” you may have said another time. Art time might make you cringe but truly you long to give your children the chance to enjoy art.

Chalk Pastels 101 - Learn to be an artist!

Chalk Pastels 101

You ARE an Artist. That’s what Nana and I hope to share with you this week of Chalk Pastels 101. The joy of art. (Plus lots more on being an artist and supplies and all)

Because guess what?

I didn’t inherit the art gene either. My mama (Nana) is a master artist. Do I have an art degree? No ma’am. I am a journalism girl. Even after we started sharing our art tutorials here at Hodgepodge, I was the one behind the camera. I believed in the practice of practice and I would supply my children with art time. But I didn’t truly realize that I am an artist too.

How did I discover that I am an artist too? Practice.

In practicing giving my children practice, I started folding myself into the smiles. I gave it a try. And guess what? Practice built my confidence.

Accidental Artists with chalk pastels

The Accidental Artists

How did we come to start sharing chalk pastel tutorials as a family? Quite by accident. The story starts like this. One snow day (yes, here in Georgia) Nana was snowed in at our house. She decided to pull out the chalk pastels. Outside there was snow piled up and inside we were painting a path to the beach.

After we saw how much FUN all our ages had, we wanted to share about it. Something we could all do together? With a ten year age spread in children? Yes!

So we shared. And then…

Many of our readers wanted our tutorials in one handy spot. As requested, we put our chalk pastel tutorials in ebook form for you – including video tutorials! Easy to view on a computer, iPad or Kindle. Easy to print. Now you can have a master artist teach your family – Just add paper and chalk pastels!

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.
