When it is just Wednesday and it has already been a full week. When the patience is tapped. Or the noise is a bit much. I start to think of date night.
Date night is just a little bit of time away with my husband. A breath of fresh air. A new perspective. And a better wife, better mama for it. Refreshed to freely love. Ready to tuck in precious ones. Listen to prayers. Be thankful.
Date night is a habit we built early in our marriage thanks to the encouragement of Nana who wanted to have her new grandchild all to herself.
See, when you exchanged vows, you and your husband became a family. You were a family before children. Before homeschooling. Before all the activities you are currently committed to. Just the two of you.
And thinking of date night reminded me that Dana asked a very important question recently. I asked her if I could share our discussion. She said, “Date nights are an area I need to do more planning and implementing. Any advice to share in that arena?”
- Date Night at Home – Spending time with your spouse without the children around is crucial to a good marriage. Children need to know that mommy and daddy sometimes want to be together, alone. Your affection for each other is part of their overall security. In short, while it seems you’re doing it for the two of you, you’re also doing it for them.
- Dating Your Husband – Is it worth the investment, worth the planning, worth the time and effort? Let me count the ways…
- Big 6 Great Dates – “Below you will find 6 steps for your date. Be sure not to look at the next step before completing the one before it. Have a Great Date!”
- Getting Away Part Two – My husband and I decided before we were married not to give each other gifts for our anniversaries. Instead, we decided to take the money that would have been spent on gifts and use it to do something extra special together – to create new memories by getting away alone for a day or two.

I urge you.
I charge you.
I beg you.
Date your husband.
I promise you.
You will love it.
Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

We need another date night soon! I’ve always admired how you and Steve are so dedicated to this time for just the two of you — you have encouraged Hal and I to get more — and we do (now that we have one who is old enough to babysit!)
Hugs, my friend!

We DO need another date night soon! That was so much fun and it sure makes a difference to get out and spend time with friends we have so much in common with. And good for you on being purposeful with date night!
