The Butter Cat: Hodgepodge Classic

I told you that our youngest daughter gives us lots of material to share. Last fall, our then just-turned two-year-old came to me as I was changing baby brother. She had that glowingly proud look on her face. “I washed the cat!” she said.

“Oh, really?” I asked.”What did you wash him with?” “Soap!” she said.

I asked her to show me. I was very curious how and why the cat had allowed such an offense. The orange cat was curled up and sleeping peacefully in the sun. Beside him I did see three open, very hairy and partially used sticks of butter.

I had planned to bake a pound cake which calls for four sticks of butter. The other stick was on the piano bench.

So now, in addition to making sure pot handles are turned away and out of reach, I make sure room temperature sticks of butter needed for baking are too.

A Classic Hodgepodge repost from October 1, 2008.

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.
