Almost Heaven West Virginia…
I spent the first part of my childhood in West Virginia. Almost heaven is something I have heard my whole life but it didn’t really mean much to me until my recent trip back home. No doubt I have always known the mountains are beautiful, I have traveled through them many times. As I traveled the West Virginia Turnpike this fall, the beauty of God’s creation overwhelmed me. Who else, but our Creator could create such natural beauty!
He owns the deepest parts of the earth. The mountain peaks belong to him. Psalm 95:4
I encourage you to share in the beauty of God’s creation with your family.
- Pray with your family, thanking God for His wonderful and marvelous creation.
- Take a nature walk and point out specific things, big and small, in nature closer to home.
- If you get an opportunity to travel, make sure you stop and take the time to relish in the beauty of God’s creation.
- Even if you can’t travel through the mountains of West Virginia or the shore of Alaska(my dream), show them pictures or paintings of these natural wonders.
- Talk about memories of your childhood relating to nature. Children love to hear about your past and what better way to share your experiences of camping, traveling, etc. with your family!
- Let your children recreate what they have seen in nature using pastels, paint, items from nature, etc.
- Discuss ways to preserve nature. Plan an activity with your family to give back to the community, such as cleaning up a park or along a busy road(for older children).
But he has given proof of what he is like. He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven. He gives you crops in their seasons. He provides you with plenty of food. He fills your hearts with joy. Acts 14:17(NIRV)

We love to go to a local nature area and spend a lot of time there this time of year especially. We also have a field trip planned on Tuesday to a special “forest” attached to a science center. I’m looking forward to that!
