Anniversary

As I make the bed the morning of our anniversary, I pause to look at the photos. One wedding picture above each nightstand. Later in the day, I slow and look at the photos around the house. The children ask about our wedding day. We sit and we flip through the album, me remembering and telling the stories. Yes, your Daddy did wear a Jiminy Cricket tie pin the whole day… I pull out my phone and snap photos as we turn the thick pages.

The flowers surely fade but the happy memories of a wedding day do not…

The waistline may widen but the blessings of children are abundantly better than inches…

My groom and I may not ever ride in a carriage again…

But he will always be my prince…

The balloons and shoe polish are all cleaned up but we can still ride off into the sunset – just as a state of mind…

The t-shirts from the honeymoon may grow thin from wear but love remains…

The snug cottage by the seaside trades for a home built for seven…

The rings remain a reminder. A reminder of His encircling love and of our never-ending devotion til death do us part…

I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine. Song of Solomon 6:3

And our wedding date matches the Bible verse reference we love to quote. We celebrate 16 years.

It’s good to pause. To look at pictures. To remember. To go out to dinner. To drive on a little day trip, just the two of us. To count so many, many ways the Lord has been good to us. For all the ways prayers were answered.

To remember. To remember the past and to pray for the future. Future years together. Future spouses of our children. Pray and look forward.

Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be! ~ Robert Browning

Counting 2477 – 2487.

Love never gives up…Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end…But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love. 1 Corinthians 13

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.
