Just the Basics, M’am

Oh how we homeschool moms pour over curriculum. We make plans, pick up new pencils at the store. Mark dates on the calendar. But what about the basics? Those simple, necessary things we have to do every day as mothers? How about the basic routines and habits we’d like for our children to build – like brushing teeth and clearing their spot at the breakfast table?

When we start back to school I always anticipate a rough week. It’s just hard for everyone (mom included!) to get back into a routine. Knowing this ahead of time, I realize it is better to focus on just the basics, m’am. When I don’t have these basics down, we so easily get derailed.

Join me at Heart of the Matter today. I’m sharing the basics of our back to school time…

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Just found you and thank you for sharing. I am new at homeschooling in a unique situation: My husband and I are in our mid-fifties. I was 49 when all the adoption paperwork finally went through and we were blessed with two beautiful children who are now in second grade. They attended a small Christian school for three years when I decided to retire early and homeschool. Most days I feel I’m drowning and going nuts: one of the is a strong spirited child and the other has sensory and word retrieval issues. No matter how much I read, I still have no clue about how to best help them – a different approach with each one? different lesson plan for each one? You teach multilevel – they’re both in the same grade but esp, with ELA and history, they have different needs. BTW, we live in NYS, not super friendly to home-schoolers… 🙂
