Review Week + Hodgepodge Helpful Habit

1. Fun Sunday afternoon trip to Michael’s with Eldest Girl included duck tape and then Starbucks | 2. Shark Birthday Girl | 3. Sunny SunButter picnic | 4. Reading Homeschooling Gifted and Advanced Learners – review soon! | 5. AiG Human Body unit study  Nutrition, vitamins, minerals and circulation this week | 6. Learning scientific nomenclature with Apologia Biology | 7. Excavating is hard work! | 8. Medieval castles | 9. Face painting at Chick-fil-a fundraiser for Millie’s Miracle (a little girl in our homeschool group)

Lil’ Buddy taking his once-a-week afternoon nap.

Helpful Habit – Keeping up the habit of sharing a helpful habit on Fridays. Today’s habit is a whole ‘nother post. Afternoon Quiet Time Part Three – Questions. Since sharing about this, the anchor of our day, I’ve received several questions. I answer specifics in a post earlier today.

Besides the hodgepodge in the photo collage above, this week was primarily review with Tapestry of Grace. I shared those benefits earlier in the week. History review, research skills, writing – for all our ages and stages – in Tapestry of Grace Unit Review with Lapbook.

Younger ones practiced a Following the Steps exercise from Slow and Steady Get Me Ready. They helped make quesadillas and set the table for lunch.

Kindergartener practiced reading with Alphaphonics. (Sentences sort of like the chaos that goes on around here sometimes?)  🙂

We made a day of living math when the batteries for the computer mouse weren’t working. Popcorn estimation experiments, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and putting breakfast cereal boxes in order based on amount of sugar. Living Math – Still Loving It!

We pulled out the Thanksgiving books and made them easy to reach – in the magazine rack above the family room couch.

And enjoyed much outdoor time surrounded by fall colors, including a Thistles and Sunshine Nature Study (with a stick fort).

Many thanks to our Friday hostesses…Camera Phone Friday hostess Dawn Camp @ My Home Sweet Home and…

Weekly Wrap-Up hostess Kris at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.

And a question for you. What fall colors are you enjoying?

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Your post looks so peaceful this week! I felt so calm after seeing it. I love the lapbook review idea. Those lapbooks look great. I love how Lil Buddy is learning and growing right before our eyes. What a big year of growth for him. Good idea to pull out the Thanksgiving books and I love your book rack. You ALWAYS inspire me!

Thank you Phyllis….hmmm. Not so peaceful as it would lead you to believe 🙂 Yes, this is a big year for Lil’ Buddy. We LOVE our book rack. It’s mighty handy right there in the main reading spot.

I so need to include at least a little living math. Love it in theory, but never do it in actuality. And iphone photos — I need to remember to do enough for a camera phone Friday thing!

I always look forward to weekly reviews and photo collages!

My youngest and I have a date day today. She’d love nothing more than duck tape in every available color and something from Starbucks:)

I linked to your Living Math post in my weekly review, because I found it to be so inspiring! Living math activities are hard for me to come up with sometimes. I’ve just got to get the book that you mentioned. Thanks!

Jamie and Prairie Jenn – Cindy’s Living Math ebook is a book for YOU – the homeschool teacher. So many great ideas for the regular. It opened my eyes to all of the living math we were already doing.
