The habit of assembling together…

assembling yourselves together…

“The lighting of the Jewish candle for sabbath brought about the feeling of serenity.  They looked forward to the sabbath. Today’s mostly fragmented Christian family hardly ever seems to look forward to its way of worship, the Lord’s Day, we must ponder the Jewish saying, “More than Israel kept the Sabbath, the Sabbath kept Israel. Judaism tries to foster the vision of life as a pilgrimage to the seventh day’ the longing for the Sabbath of the week. Judaism treats the Sabbath as a queen or bride; its holiness is a reminder of the world to come. As the above imagery and teaching have helped the observant Jew to refocus, sustaining serenity, and regain divine perspective in the midst of the weekly pressures of life, so the Lord’s Day for the Christian ought-among other spiritual purposes-to provide renewal in similar ways.”     Our Father Abraham by: Marvin Wilson

“The Bible says not to forsake the assembling of yourselves together. We are to come together. In the early church they came together the first day of the week, for sure, and probably several other times during the week for fellowship. And the reason we do this is because Hebrews 10 says we stimulate one another to love and good works. When you stay away, you grow cold. You need that peer pressure, if you will, that spiritual stimulus that comes from the community of Christians. In fact, in the earliest years of the early church they met every day.”  John MacArthur

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,  not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25

Kim has been married for twenty-three years, a minister’s wife for more than twenty years. She has eight children and has been homeschooling for fifteen years. She would like to say she reads travels and does all kinds of wonderful things in her spare time, but the truth is she spends her spare time doing laundry.
